How to read a charger

What to check on a station label before you plug in.

Start with the connector: make sure the handle matches your car's port (J1772, CCS, NACS, or CHAdeMO). An adapter may be required on some networks.

Check the rated kW — that is the station's maximum, not a guarantee for your session. Your car, SOC, and temperature may limit the actual speed.

Read the price unit: $/kWh charges for energy delivered; $/min charges for time connected. Look for session fees and idle penalties that apply after charging stops.
